Masdar is a city built for sustainable advantage enabling innovation and sustainable urban development in a modern cleantech cluster and free economic zone.
Located in the United Arab Emerites the 'research' city of Mazdar is the opposite of Abu Dhabi and Dubai that were designed in the 1970's and 80's.
The use of passive solar design has major benefits in reducing maximum temperatures substantially and the energy requirements by around 60%. PV solar panels on rooftops provide for most of the cities energy needs and also provide extra shade.
One striking design feature is there are no cars above ground making pedestrian access easy and enjoyable, as well as being environmentally sustainable.
